54th NSS Foundation Day celebrated at GDC Kathua

KATHUA, Sept 24: The NSS Units of Govt. Degree College Kathua celebrated its 54th NSS Foundation Day in the College Auditorium under the patronage of College Principal, Prof Seema Mir, here on Sunday.

The celebrations started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest Prof Raj Kiran Sharma Head Department of Physics along with senior most faculty members of the college Prof Rakesh Jasrotia Head Department of Chemistry, Dr Pankaj Gupta Staff Secretary GDC Kathua, followed by Saraswati Bandana and NSS song by the volunteers.

A welcome address was delivered by NSS Programme Officer Prof. Manmohan Singh who also gave a brief overview of the National Service Scheme in India and its purpose. A detailed report on the activities during the session 2022-23 was presented by senior most volunteer Meenakshi Bakshi.

 The cultural events included a fusion dance of all cultures including Himachali, Kashmiri, Dogri and Marathi Dance and Gidda and Punjabi Bhangra and solo performances by Natasha, Meeankshi Bakshi, Komal Sharma and Yashvee Gotra  were presented.

A skit on social evil titled acid attack was presented by Jharna and her team members to create awareness among the volunteers. Event ended with an energetic Bhangra performance by the volunteers.

NSS volunteers Alieshea and Vishal Gupta conducted the proceedings of the programme. Pratham Sharma and Anamika Sharma were honored with best volunteer awards for the session 2022-23 in male and female category, respectively. 

The chief guest Prof Raj Kiran Sharma addressed the volunteers being a former NSS Program of these units during College time. She shared her experience of her journey from a NSS Program officer to till now as a Head of the Physics department of the College.

Prof Rakesh Jasrotia Head of Chemistry Department also addressed the volunteers and extended warm greetings to the volunteers on the foundation day.

NSS volunteers Imran Ali, Monika Devi, Abhi Kumar, Mohit Verma, Ritika Jasrotia, Bavita Devi and Abhishek Singh Sumbaria were honoured by the NSS Units of the college for rendering their services as active and dedicated volunteers and bring laurels for the college by representing College at National level.

The NSS day was celebrated under the supervision of NSS Programme Officers Prof. Mannmohan Singh, Prof Neha Bandral and Dr. Suresh Sharma. The programme was ended with a vote of thanks by NSS Program officer Neha Bandral.
