Congress gears up for upcoming local bodies elections

JAMMU, Aug 18: The Congress party on Friday held a meeting at the party office at Shaheedi Chowk here to discuss the preparations for the upcoming local body elections.

 Working President PCC Raman Bhalla led the meeting along with Former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney, I/C District President Jammu (Urban). The planning and strategy for the upcoming elections was discussed during the meeting. Various groups had also been created to segregate preparatory work for the upcoming elections.

Prominent leaders including Varinder Manhas, Pawan Dev Singh, Bushan Dogra, Corporate Ritu Choudhary, Corporator Rashpal Bhradwaj, Uttam Singh, Jatin Vishisht, Sandeep Dogra, Vijay Singh Chib, Anil Kumar, Ricky Dalotra, Rajesh Sharma and others were present during the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Raman Bhalla directed the party leaders to prepare in full swing for the local body elections and leave no stone unturned in getting in contact with the public at the ground level. He said that the Congress in Jammu is ready and capable of securing the trust of the general public. Amidst the constant disappointment from BJP leaders, people of Jammu are distraught and distressed and the aim of the Congress party is to remedy that.

He added that the BJP government at the Centre is yet to announce Assembly elections for J&K for which people are eagerly waiting. However, the local body elections are an opportunity for people to get some form of representation. Local body elections are an important barometer of political support and form the foundation of any electoral democracy. These polls will be very crucial, he said. Bhalla further guided the groups and assigned their respective responsibilities for the preparation for the elections.

Yogesh Sawhney, I/C District President Jammu (U) said that the upcoming local body elections are very important. Every member in Jammu must work to strengthen the bond with the public at the grassroots level. For the past years, the Congress party has tried to familiarise itself with the genuine concerns of the public and raise them in front of the administration.

 Sawhney said that in the intervening time, Congress leaders and workers are working with complete zeal to spread awareness on the party’s ideology, efforts and vision and at the same build a relationship with the public. The former Minister also urged the members to work in line with the guidelines issued during the meeting for the preparations and give their best.
