District Kathua Chess Championship concludes at TDS College

KATHUA, July 3: District Chess Championship, organized by District Chess Association, concluded at TDS College, here today.

Inspector and former State Athletic Champion, Sanjeev Kumar was the chief guest, while Atul Kumar Gupta joint secretary All India Chess Federation and working president All J&K Chess Association was the special guest.

In this tournament, five rounds were played and a total of 90 players participated in which a large number of the participants were below 11 years. The tournament was organized by District president, Ravi Sharma with Swiss software as per international rules.

Addressing the participant players, the District president said that chess can help to build a better society and smart and intelligent citizens.

In open boys category, Paras Sharma-1st, Anand Swaroop-2nd, Amandeep Singh-3rd and Shivam Verma-4th, while in girls category, 1st– Mriganka Sangra, 2nd -Harsheen Kour, Ridhima Gupta and Priyal Sharma.

In under 14 boys, 1st – Sahil Mahajan, 2nd -Rishant Jasrotia, 3rd -Sanyam Verma and Yakshit Gupta, while in girls category, 1st– Manikarnika Sharma, 2nd -Upkeerat Kour, 3rd -Tavleen Kour and 4th -Monikska Raina.

In Under 9 boys, Rajyawardhan, Jaiveer Singh and  Hriday Sharma stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, while in girls under 8 boys, first three positions were secured by  Viraj Raina, Anhad Singh and  Anhad b Dhillon.

In under 9 girls, Aarvi Andotra, Kaavya and Samridhi Andotra remained 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, while in under 8 girls, 1st and 2nd places were won  Aradhya Rajput and Ajitaa Gupta, besides in under 7 boys, Kiaan-1st and in under-7 girls, Avarana stood 1st, whereas the youngest player from Kathua was Madeshwar.
