Two day workshop on ‘Financial Literacy’ held at GDC Kathua

KATHUA, Aug 2:  Govt. Degree College Kathua concluded a two day workshop on ‘Financial Literacy for Youth’ in collaboration with NISM National Institute of Securities Market, AXIS Bank, here today.

 The program started with the welcome address by Dr. Neha Bandral, Head Department of Economics. The Key note speaker of the workshop was Prof Nishant Narang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, GDC Jawali, Himachal Pradesh,

Prof Narang was inducted as Securities Market Trainer by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for Kangra District (Himachal Pradesh) to promote Financial Literacy.

A total of eight sessions were held during the workshop. All sessions were based on different topics. First session was based on saving and investment, in which he talked about the promotion of saving so that judicious investment can be made to beat inflation.

Second session was based on the complete detail of the primary market. In the third session, the resource person throws light on the working of the secondary market.

In the fourth session, Prof. Narang talked about Sovereign Gold Bond investment. He added that investors can invest in SGBs through their demat accounts or via online banking. The country’s top lender State Bank of India (SBI) allows buying SGBs online. First day of the workshop was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Neha Bandral.

The second day of the workshop started with the welcome address by the host of the workshop.

The workshop was attended by sixty students from the Department of Economics. In the concluding sessions, Principal GDC Kathua addressed the audience and advised the students to live a financially healthy life. The College Principal along with other senior faculty facilitated the keynote speakers with a memento.

 The program was attended by Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma, Prof Rakesh Jasrotia, Prof Shub Kumar Sharma, Prof Rachna Raj, and Dr. Jogbinder Singh Soodan. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Neha Bandral Head Department of Economics.
