UT level Junior Wushu team finalized for National

SRINAGAR, July 9: Union Territory level Junior Wushu team has been finalised after the three days trials, concluded at SKISC Stadium Srinagar, here today.

The team was finalised for the upcoming 22 nd Junior National Wushu Championship, which is scheduled to be held at Patna from August 6 to 11.

Almost more than 300 players from 16 districts participated in the selection trial at SKISC Stadium. The selection committee members headed by Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee) along with members Maqsood Rather, Kamal Kishore and Ajaz Hassan shortlisted the final team on the basis of their performances during the sparring.

It is important to mention here that during the last edition of the Junior National, J&K Wushu team emerged as 2 nd runner up and one player namely Ayeera Chist was selected for the 7 th Junior World Wushu Championship held at Indonesia and secured a Bronze medal in the Championship.

As per the hand-out of the Wushu Association of India, the medallist players will be shortlisted for the NCOE Centres for the preparation of the Indian Junior Wushu team for the forthcoming Youth Olympic/World/Asian and Youth Asian Games.

The selection trial was held under the close supervision of the general secretary of the Wushu Association of J&K Bhavneet. She congratulated all the selected players for the upcoming championship and wished all the best for the event.

The president Vijay Saraf also congratulated the team for their selection and expressed that this time the Junior Wushu team will emerge as winner of the event.

Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee) thanked Secretary, J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul for extending full support for the selection trials. “It is the first time in my entire life that the J& K selection trials were conducted on the international standard platform,” he claimed.
